How to Start Your Fitness Journey

29 September 2025

Autumn is a season of fresh beginnings. Schools are back in session, work routines settle in, and many of us feel the urge to refocus on our health and well-being.

That’s why, together with MyFitness, we’ve launched the “New Beginnings” September Challenge, designed to get you moving, try new things, and discover the type of workout that truly fits you.

But where do you begin if you haven’t exercised in ages—or if this is completely new territory for you?

Tips from Gea Simson, MyFitness’ Group Training Manager, to help you get started.

How to Choose the Right Group Class

MyFitness offers a huge variety of classes, from calm and restorative sessions to high-energy, challenging workouts. This can feel overwhelming at first, but Gea’s advice is simple: start slow and listen to your body.

Start with Strength Training

Strength-based workouts prepare your body for more intense exercise later on.
Popular options at MyFitness include Core-Back-Glutes, Booty, or Body Pump classes.

Try Yoga and Pilates

Slower-paced workouts with a big impact—they improve posture, bring mental clarity, and increase flexibility.
In addition to classic yoga and pilates sessions, MyFitness also offers Pilates Sculpt and Barre classes, which are strength-focused and perfect for building muscle tone while boosting your overall well-being.

Fusion Pilates – Perfect for Beginners

This “club within a club” experience uses reformer machines, letting you choose the speed and resistance that suit your level.
Gea says it’s one of the best ways to kick off your fitness journey, thanks to the supportive trainers, vibrant atmosphere, and energizing music that make every session motivating and fun.

Ready to Turn Up the Intensity?

Studio X combines cardio and strength training for a total-body workout.

BoxBox lets you work up a sweat while punching out stress on boxing bags.

Aqua classes provide a completely different experience—gentle on your joints, yet highly effective.

The golden rule? Choose something you genuinely enjoy.
When you like the process, it’s easier to stay consistent—and results will come much faster.

First Steps in the Gym

If group classes aren’t your thing and you’d rather train independently, the gym is a fantastic place to start.
Here’s how to ease into it without feeling overwhelmed:

Start slow and listen to your body.

There’s no need to lift heavy weights right away. First, focus on learning the right movement patterns and techniques.

Use the machine guides.

Most MyFitness machines have instructions explaining how to use them and which muscles they target. Start with these to build a solid foundation.

Focus on form, not numbers.

Good technique is key to avoiding injuries. Once you feel confident, gradually increase the weights over time.

Stay hydrated.

Drink plenty of water during and after your workout to support recovery and prevent dehydration.

Appreciate every move.

Whether it’s ten minutes on the treadmill or a light set on a machine, every bit of movement counts.
Each step brings you closer to feeling healthier and more energized.

Your Fresh Start Begins With You

It doesn’t matter how fast you go or how much you can do right away.
What matters is that you take that first step.

Our “New Beginnings” September Challenge invites you to explore, try new things, and build a workout habit you actually enjoy.
And don’t forget: everyone who joins the challenge is entered to win a 3-month MyFitness +Full package subscription at the club of their choice!
This autumn, every step matters—start today!
